Residential Locksmith Services

From a locked-out Saturday morning to a full rekey after buying a lake house, residential locksmith work in the Highland Lakes region has its own patterns — vacation homes that sit empty for weeks, older hardware on historic Main Street cottages, new smart locks on master-planned subdivisions. Highland Lakes Lock & Key handles all of it on-site, at your door.

Core residential services

Home lockouts happen to everyone — a door that locked behind you, a lost key, a lock that's simply failed. Rekeying is the most requested service for homeowners buying a new property, ending a lease with a tenant, or wanting peace of mind after a contractor, cleaning service, or ex-partner had a key. We also install and repair standard deadbolts, smart locks, and multi-point locking hardware, and can key an entire home — including a garage, shed, or guest house — to a single working key.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between rekeying and replacing a lock?

Rekeying changes the internal pins of your existing lock so old keys no longer work and new ones do — it keeps your current hardware and finish, and is typically faster and less expensive than replacing the lock body entirely. Replacement makes sense when the hardware itself is worn out, damaged, or you want to change the style or add smart-lock features.

Should I rekey or replace locks when I move into a new home?

Rekey, at minimum. You have no way of knowing how many keys the previous owner, real estate agents, contractors, or neighbors were given over the years. It's a same-visit, affordable way to make sure you're the only one with a working key.
